A CHALLENGE TO LOOK LOOK on the FIELDS, and LOOK unto the HILLS
John 4:3535
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I
say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white
already to harvest. Luke 10:22
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the
labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send
forth labourers into his harvest. Ps
121:1-2
1
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2
My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. INTRO. STORY SETTING1. Jesus sends his disciples for food. 2. Jesus is soul winning. 3. Jesus meat is to do the will of God.
I. Jesus
told his disciples to look
on the fields for they were already WHITE to HARVEST. He then told them
to PRAY for the Lord of the HARVEST
to send workers into the HARVEST. I
believe the sequence is very important. A.
We
must view the HARVEST that SHOWS the REASON for OUR BEING in HIS GREAT KINGDOM,
and grants each of us a wonderful job description. -

theaomai- 1) to behold, to look upon, to view attentively, to contemplate (often
used of public shows); used of important persons that are looked on with
admiration. 2) to view, to take a view of in the sense of visiting, meeting with a person. 3)
to learn by looking, to see with the eyes, to perceive.
B. Illustration - Ezk 3:15 The prophet Ezekiel said I sat where they sat
(speaking of them of the captivity) … and this helped me to understand their headaches and problems rather than preaching to them, I TASTED OF THEIR TRAGEDIES and this allowed me to become more compassionate and effective. How long has it been since any of us put ourselves into the other person’s pain, their pressure, failures, hurts or whatever? This would surely birth in all of us much greater kindness, concern and tolerance, if we would enter into their situations from their viewpoint. I think that we are often out of sympathy with the sick because we are well; the poor because we have enough; the young because we have grown a little older and now we dream and desire much less than when we were their age. Jesus mixed among all sorts to enter into their pains and problems; shall we keep a safe distance and never try to sit where they now must sit? II. A. The size of the HARVEST and the readiness of it must cause us to LOOK UNTO THE HILLS for help. Ps 121:1-21
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2
My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. The
first LOOK (the lost
– the harvest) should be the driving force into the second
LOOK, realizing that we cannot do the job that is waiting on us except
GOD HELPS US. -
We must
not rely upon flesh, talents of men, programs or philosophies -
But upon
the power of God (my
help comes from the Lord) - If God does not help, nobody can help; if God does, none can hinder, nobody can hurt. B. * Our VISION will always determine our VICTORY.
(The importance of a having a dream …)
I
must behold my mission and also behold the LORD OF THAT MISSION..
- If I / we are unmoved by the HARVEST committed to us, then we surely will not lift our eyes any higher than our little world. - God did not seek and save any of us just so we could enjoy His great blessings, be secure with the promise of a glorious future and to miss hell only...
- He touched each of us so we could be sent back into the field and seeks others
to be spared for HIS NAMESAKE. CloseWe must ask ourselves some tough questions. What
is my job here? Am
I doing anything to expand His kingdom? Do I care about the lost? We
are STEWARDS unto God for the truths He has placed in our care. We must seek to
share this wonderful message of mercy with others. I pray that our eyes will
behold the HARVEST and the HEAVENS from whence comes our help. Look on the harvest. AND Look unto hills. |
